1st Annual Scarecrows on the Common Contest

Come join the FUN! Anyone can register! Individuals, families, community groups, businesses and classrooms are all welcome to participate. There is even a  Pooka category for young children (ages 3 to 10) to create a mini scarecrow (3-foot cross stake).  All proceed support the Bedford Historical Society & Museum

The Bedford Historical Society will provide up to two wood cross stakes (more details to follow). All entries receive a 4’x4′ foot are  to decorate ($20). Larger spaces available upon request. Multiple Scarecrows, whimsical characters and/or miscellaneous props may be displayed in your 4’x4′ area. Scarecrow(s) display may reflect a special theme or promote your organization, business, school or restaurant. Scarecrow(s) must be constructed to withstand severe wind and rainy weather conditions. Use care in choosing your materials. All decorations must be firmly attached to your scarecrow(s). We recommend you use staple guns, fishing line or twine to secure your scarecrow(s). If you use newspaper or hay (please place it in plastic bags) to stuff your scarecrow. Wet materials weigh the scarecrow down!

Deadline for both entry fee ($25) and form is Tuesday, September 28. We ask that all entries be dropped off at the Town Hall Museum the week of Tuesday, October 5th through Thursday October 7th between 10:00am – 4:00pm. All entries will be displayed from Friday October 8th through Saturday November 6th. Winners will be announced Tuesday November 9th. 

The Bedford Historical Society will be responsible for placing signage at each display, which will include: Your Scarecrow’s name, your name, business, organization, school or club affiliation.

All visitors to the Town Hall Museum will be encouraged to vote for their favorite scarecrow. Each scarecrow will have a numbered photo and be displayed in the Museum where visitors will be able to cast their vote. Feel free to encourage your friends and family to visit the Town Hall museum and vote.

Prizes include: The People’s Choice Award $100 (Scarecrow with the most votes); Individual Family Award $100; Pooka Award (Pizza party for winner and ten friends); Business (Logo displayed on BHS&M website; Non-profits/clubs/service organizations ($50 and pizza party for your group) Youth groups, school class ($50 and pizza party.)
