Afternoon Tea with Emily

AFTERNOON TEA with EMILY

Emily Thompson is hosting an afternoon tea with her mother and grandmother. They have planned an afternoon to meet some of the children in town and talk about life in Bedford in the 1870’s and your invited!

Come join Emily Thompson, age 11, for an authentic 1876 afternoon children’s tea at the Dunham House on Saturday, June 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. This 2-hour educational and interactive program is for children 8 to 12 years old. Participants can expect a sampling of appropriate foods and historical interpretation, along with a selection of period pastimes that will prove to be fun for all! The cost is $30 per child. Reservations required as space is limited. 

Children will make an autograph book and discover how they were used. Learn about etiquette; listen to poetry and stories; visit Emily’s room and see her toys. Play popular parlor games; and be served a delicious Afternoon Tea!

Participants must be dropped off at the Town Hall Museum at 1:45 PM and will be escorted to the Dunham House by our education staff. 1832 Hezekiah Dunham House

The He1832 Hezekiah Dunham House
Located on Broadway Avenue across from the Bedford City Commons, the Dunham House was built by prosperous early settler, Hezekiah Dunham whose influence helped form the Village of Bedford in 1837. Dunham donated several parcels of land for public use including the Bedford City Commons.

The house has been restored to the 1876 Centennial period reflected in the City’s Seal, Spirit of “76, the famous work of Bedford native son, Archibald Willard.

The Dunham House has a long history, including its use as the home to Richard Sedlon, a 20th Century Bedford artist. Several of Sedlon’s works are on exhibit in the Town Hall Museum.

The Hezekiah Dunham House is a brick Georgian mansion built by one of Bedford’s early settlers. The house was restored mainly by volunteer labor in the 1980s to 2000. Furnishings in the house reflect three periods of occupancy; 1840s, 1900 and 1950. It is on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984.
