Treasurer
Overview
The treasurer is a volunteer position, elected by the board to a one-year term until a qualified successor is elected.
Responsibilities
- Custodian of Funds responsible for the Society’s bank accounts including deposit and paying approved bills
- Monthly Reconciliation bank statements with Finance Chair every month to ensure the Society’s books match the bank’s records
- Annual Budget participation for creating the annual budget
- Treasurer Report presentation at board meetings including a Statement of Activity and a Balance Sheet
- Annual Audit participation to maintain transparency with the members
- Legal & Tax Compliance with critical filings including IRS Form 990, Annual Financial Report to Ohio Attorney General, and Sales Tax
- Event Cash Management of cash boxes and day’s intake with another board member
Qualifications
- Nonprofit accounting standards, specifically regarding restricted vs. unrestricted funds and endowment management
- Overseeing the preparation and filing of IRS Form 990 and state-level nonprofit tax filings
- Management of investment portfolios, interest-bearing accounts, or capital reserve funds for long-term organizational stability
- Ability to design and enforce policies for expense reimbursement, check-signing authority, and petty cash management to prevent fraud
- Ability to explain complex financial data to non-financial board members in clear, accessible language
- High-level accuracy in reconciling bank statements and maintaining the general ledger
